Timber Sash Windows Built to last longer than uPVC Windows

A typical traditional sash window consists of two sashes placed in the front and behind and slides up and down, in vertical motions with the cords counterbalanced by lead weights. A sliding sash may have an opening at the bottom or top or both. For easy cleaning, modern sash window designs tilt in and out but traditional designs do not swing outwardly.

If you live in a conservation area or the building has been grade listed for replacement or restoration with genuine timber, your only option may be sash windows. Waterproofing and repair should be done on existing sashes where possible, but in a case where repair is not the smart option, authentic replacements should be manufactured and used. If taken care of properly, timber will better the modern uPVC varieties in life span as they are excellent insulators and are durable, and the good news is timber windows no longer have to be high maintenance with the modern versions coming in all colours and stains.

Composite sash windows with their hybrid build consisting of wood on the inside and the exterior clad with aluminium are increasing in popularity. This ensures that the classic wooden look is maintained internally, but also resist varying weather conditions and are low maintenance on the outside.

Timber is the more expensive option Off the shelf compared to other types such as uPVC, but timber is traditional and looks absolutely fantastic.
